Income Support number – 0843 487 1843
Before you call the Income Support contact number, it is a good idea to have an understanding of what they can provide. Income Support is a government benefit that is provided as a safety net to support people in particular life circumstances.
Who is entitled to Income Support
People who are eligible to receive a sum of money from Income Support will need to fulfil a series of conditions to check that they will be awarded the benefit, and these include:
- Being between the ages of 16 and retirement age
- Have a low income, or no income at all
- Be working fewer than 16 hours a week
- Being pregnant, disabled, a lone parent or a carer.
Calling the Income Support helpline
However, to check that you qualify to meet the criteria for Income Support, giving Jobcentre Plus a ring on the Income Support helpline to find out more detail of whether the benefit would suit your individual situation is always a smart decision. They will be able to answer any questions you may have about your eligibility and, if they decide that they can help you, they may even be able to open up a claim for you there and then.
Should you find out that you are not entitled to Income Support, the person you speak to on the Income Support phone number will be able to direct you to more appropriate sources of help and support. For instance, if somebody wants to go on Income Support because they are unwell, but they have savings of £16,000, then Income Support is not the right benefit for them. The advisor should be able to suggest a different department who may be able to offer help instead, such as the Personal Independence Payments (PIP).
So don’t hesitate to call the Income Support number even if you are not clear about what you are entitled to. They receive calls all the time from people who don’t know what their entitlement is, so you won’t be the first and you won’t be the last! Bite the bullet, and make the call.
Social security exists to protect people from falling through the traps, so never feel ashamed about asking for the help you need. Whether you want to sign up, check your entitlement, or talk about your options, call the Income Support helpline for the guidance and advice you need.
